  • The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has initiated a series of consultations with key industry stakeholders to discuss proposed regulations that will establish mandatory standards for the registration and licensing of Multi-Purpose Establishments including banquet facilities, conference halls, event centres, etc.as well as service providers involved in event management, such as event planners, decorators, and technical support teams. This initiative represents a significant milestone in the Authority’s efforts to elevate professionalism, enhance consumer protection, and boost competitiveness within Ghana’s rapidly growing tourism sector.

The stakeholder engagement session took place on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, and also marked the launch of the Ghana Tourism Information System (GTIS), a comprehensive digital platform designed to streamline the administration and regulatory oversight of tourism services nationwide. The platform allows tour operators, accommodation providers, and other tourism businesses to access licensing, permits, and compliance services online, thereby reducing bureaucracy and facilitating transparency.

During the event, Maame Afua Houadjeto, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, emphasized that the proposed regulations aim to create a modern, transparent, and equitable regulatory framework. She stated that these standards will help to uplift industry practices, ensure high-quality service delivery, and foster trust among travelers and investors, ultimately driving sustainable growth in Ghana’s tourism industry.
  • TRIBUTE TO SHARON DEDE PADI (“PADIKI”)

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, and the Management of the Authority have received with profound sorrow and deep shock the heartbreaking news of the passing of Sharon Dede Padi, affectionately known to many as Padiki.

Padiki was more than a Guinness World Record holder. She was a beacon of resilience, determination, creativity, and youthful excellence whose remarkable achievement brought pride not only to herself and her family but also to Ghana. Through her courage to dream big and challenge limits, she inspired countless young people to believe that with passion, perseverance, and hard work, the impossible can indeed become possible.

Her untimely departure is a painful loss to the tourism and creative ecosystem and to the nation as a whole. Ghana has lost one of its brightest ambassadors whose story embodied the spirit of innovation, excellence, and the boundless potential of our people.

At this moment of immense grief, Maame Efua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer, together with Management and staff of the Ghana Tourism Authority, extend their heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, loved ones, and all who were touched by her inspiring journey. We pray that the Almighty grants them strength, comfort, and peace during this incredibly difficult time.

Though Padiki’s voice has been silenced and her journey on earth has ended far too soon, her legacy will continue to inspire generations of Ghanaians to pursue greatness with courage and unwavering determination. Her impact will remain etched in our hearts, and her memory will forever be cherished.

“Ours are the many questions, but God alone has the answers.”

May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

  • The Ghana Tourism Authority’s stakeholders’ engagement on the Draft Tourism (Registration and Licensing of Multi-Purpose Establishments and Providers of Event Management Services) Regulations, 2026, and the Ghana Tourism Information System (GTIS).

The engagement forms part of the Authority’s effort to consult industry stakeholders and gather input on the draft Regulations before finalisation. The Regulations seek to establish a legal framework for the registration, licensing, operation, and regulation of Multi-Purpose Establishments and Providers of Event Management Services in Ghana, in accordance with the Tourism Act, 2011 (Act 817).

The engagement with the operators across the country commenced on the 2nd of July with Accra West, kasoa. The Tema region had its engagement on the 6th of July at the Majorie ‘Y’ hotel.
  • The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, has called on Ghanaians to take ownership of the country’s coastline as the GTA launches a major Clean the Beach Campaign across Accra and surrounding coastal communities.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative dubbed ‘The Blue Ghana Initiative: Protecting Our Beaches. Preserving Our Future’, Mrs. Houadjeto said the campaign is a direct response to the country’s growing waste and flooding challenges.

“Our beaches are not just tourist attractions. They are the face we show the world and an inheritance we owe future generations. Every piece of plastic that chokes a drain in Accra has the potential to end up on our shores.
  • RE: FALSE CLAIMS OF DISCRIMINATION AT KAKUM NATIONAL PARK

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has taken note of a video circulating on social media alleging discrimination against tourists regarding photography at Kakum National Park.
The Authority has verified with the Management of Kakum National Park that the claims are false. All visitors, irrespective of nationality or residency status, are permitted to take photographs and videos for personal use with their mobile phones and other personal devices. Only professional photographers and videographers undertaking commercial work are required to pay the applicable fees.
The Management of Kakum National Park has also issued a statement denying the allegations contained in the circulating video.
The Ghana Tourism Authority therefore assures all tourists and the general public that there is no discrimination in the application of photography and videography rules at Kakum National Park. The rules apply equally to all visitors.
We encourage the public to disregard the misleading social media claims and rely on information from official sources.

  • On behalf of the Management and Staff of the Ghana Tourism Authority, I extend our deepest sympathies to all individuals, families, and communities affected by the recent floods across the country.

Our hearts go out to everyone who has suffered the loss of loved ones, homes, businesses, and livelihoods as a result of this unfortunate disaster. We share in your grief and stand in solidarity with you during this difficult period.

Please know that you are not alone—we remain with you in thought and in spirit as the nation comes together to support those in need.

As the rains continue, I wish to urge all Ghanaians to remain vigilant and strictly observe all safety precautions issued by the relevant authorities. Let us avoid flood-prone areas, refrain from attempting to cross flooded roads or drains, and take every necessary preventive measure to safeguard lives and property.

The Ghana Tourism Authority remains committed to supporting affected communities within its capacity and will continue to collaborate with the appropriate institutions to provide assistance where it is most needed.

Together, through compassion, resilience, and collective responsibility, we will overcome these challenging times and rebuild stronger.
