Journey to the top
Born in Amsterdam to parents of Ghanaian descent, Derrick Luckassen represented the Netherlands at various youth levels (under-18 through under-21) before switching allegiance to Ghana in 2026. His club career began at AZ Alkmaar before a move to PSV Eindhoven in 2017, with loan spells at Hertha Berlin, Anderlecht, and Turkish sides Kasımpaşa and Fatih Karagümrük. He joined Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2022 before signing for Cypriot club Pafos in 2024 — where, in November 2025, he scored a historic Champions League winner against Villarreal. Luckassen earned a late call-up to Ghana''s World Cup squad, replacing the injured Alexander Djiku.
