Journey to the top
Gideon Mensah''s journey began at the West African Football Academy (WAFA) before he moved to Austria''s FC Liefering in 2016 and then Red Bull Salzburg, where he won the UEFA Youth League in 2017. A series of loans followed — to Sturm Graz, Zulte Waregem, Vitória de Guimarães, and Bordeaux — before he signed permanently for Auxerre in August 2022, where he has been a regular left-back ever since, including a Ligue 2 title win in 2023/24. He made his Ghana debut in a 2021 AFCON qualifier against South Africa and is now set for his second World Cup appearance, continuing what is now an eight-year journey with the national team.
