Journey to the top
Benjamin Asare''s path to the World Cup is a domestic-football success story. He began his senior career with Sporting Mirren in 2017, before moving to Accra City Stars in 2018. His breakthrough came in 2020 when he signed for Accra Great Olympics, making his debut in a 1–1 draw with Medeama SC and quickly establishing himself as one of the Ghana Premier League''s most dependable shot-stoppers. In July 2024 he joined Accra Hearts of Oak, recently signing a new deal to keep him at the club until 2028. His performances earned him his first Black Stars call-up in 2025 during World Cup qualification, and he travels to North America as the only Ghana Premier League-based player in the squad — a notable point of pride for the domestic game.
