Journey to the top
Ghana''s deputy captain and midfield anchor, Thomas Partey began his career at Spanish academy sides before joining Atlético Madrid''s youth ranks in 2012. He broke into Atlético''s first team in 2013, with loan spells at Mallorca and Almería, before becoming a key part of the side that won the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup in 2018 and reached the 2016 Champions League final. In 2020 he moved to Arsenal, where he spent five seasons as a central midfield mainstay, before joining Villarreal in 2025. He has represented Ghana since 2016 and is regarded as the engine of the national side.
Editor's note: Recent reporting suggests Partey may face a visa-related issue affecting his availability for Ghana''s opener against Panama — this should be confirmed before publication.
