One of three England-born players in the squad, Jerome Opoku came through Fulham''s academy, where he captained the under-16 side to victory over Chelsea in the 2014 Premier League International Cup and later captained the under-23s. Originally a winger before being converted to left-back and then centre-back due to a growth spurt, his towering 1.97m frame suits his current role. After loan spells at Accrington Stanley, Plymouth Argyle, and Danish side Vejle, he moved to Portugal''s Arouca in 2022, with a loan to İstanbul Başakşehir in 2023/24 becoming permanent in 2024. He earned his first Ghana call-up in 2023 and is set for his World Cup debut.
